Alchemy of Souls – Season 1, Episode 4

After the harsh lessons of previous episodes, Jang Uk becomes more disciplined and focused. Though he still lacks experience, his determination starts producing visible results. Mu-deok continues to challenge him relentlessly, refusing to praise him and constantly reminding him that talent means nothing without control.

Their relationship remains filled with sarcasm and arguments, but the balance between them slowly changes. Jang Uk no longer sees Mu-deok simply as a servant or tool for learning magic. He begins respecting her intelligence, pain, and hidden strength. Mu-deok, meanwhile, becomes increasingly invested in his success even if she refuses to admit it.

A major focus of the episode is the growing rivalry between Jang Uk and Crown Prince Go Won. Proud, competitive, and used to being superior, the Crown Prince is irritated by Jang Uk’s confidence and refusal to submit. Their interactions are tense but entertaining, filled with sharp dialogue and ego clashes.

The conflict between them escalates when magical skill, status, and pride are tested publicly. Jang Uk’s willingness to stand against royal authority shocks many people, especially those who still see him as a disgraced noble with no future.

Meanwhile, the leaders of Daeho continue worrying about what Jang Uk’s rise could mean. His sealed power and mysterious birth remain dangerous political topics. Some want him controlled, while others are curious whether he could become something extraordinary.

Seo Yul also continues watching Mu-deok closely. He senses similarities between her and Naksu, creating emotional tension as old memories resurface. His quiet concern adds another layer to the growing relationships around her.

Elsewhere, lighter moments come through Park Dang-gu and Jin Cho-yeon, whose playful romantic storyline balances the heavier political drama.

Mu-deok also struggles internally throughout the episode. Though she originally planned only to use Jang Uk for her own survival, she now feels protective of him. The assassin who trusted no one begins caring about another person again.

As danger rises, Jang Uk proves he is no longer the idle young man everyone mocked. He shows courage, intelligence, and a willingness to risk himself for those he values. Mu-deok recognizes that her student may truly have the potential to surpass expectations.

By the end of Episode 4, Jang Uk earns greater attention from allies and enemies alike. His rivalry with the Crown Prince intensifies, Mu-deok’s feelings become more complicated, and the power structure of Daeho begins to shift.
