Alchemy of Souls – Season 1, Episode 19

Flashback: Bu-yeon’s Origin

The episode opens with a flashback revealing Jin Bu-yeon’s early life. Woo-tak (Ho-gyeong’s husband) and Jin Mu take young Bu-yeon (blind but powerfully gifted) to the Ice Stone on a boat. Jin Mu steals the stone and lets her fall overboard without saving her. Bu-yeon washes up in Sari Village, where an old woman names her Mu-deok after her late granddaughter. This confirms Mu-deok’s body is originally Jin Bu-yeon’s. Her immense powers come from her Jin mother and Choi father (Shaman Choi’s lineage).

Inside the Barrier (Jeongjingak)

Uk & Mu-deok: After their kiss, Mu-deok explains the Ice Stone’s illusions. Uk proposes sacrificing his energy (using Tansu) to turn the barrier into rain and break it, saving everyone (especially the weakening Seo Yul). Mu-deok opposes it at first but softens. Uk is ready to risk everything.

So-i & Yul: So-i transfers her blood worm (Jin lineage) to the dying Seo Yul to save him, showing conflicted feelings.

Crown Prince: He supports Uk’s risky plan and prepares to handle the aftermath.

Outside the Barrier: Political & Personal Revelations

Park Jin’s Moves: He brings the real Queen’s body (possessed by Shaman Choi’s soul earlier) to the assembly. Using a clever ruse with “Gwigu’s ashes,” he exposes the Queen as a soul-shifter. The real Queen confirms the truth. Woo-tak (Shaman Choi’s brother) is implicated.

Shaman Choi’s Breakdown: Cornered, she rants about everyone’s sins. Woo-tak sacrifices himself (stabbing himself) so his sister can flee with the last Soul Ejector. She threatens to destroy the Ice Stone, dooming everyone inside.

Jang Gang’s Return & Sacrifice: Jang Gang appears, stops the Soul Ejector, and confesses his role in all the past mistakes (Songrim, Jinyowon, Cheonbugwan). He petrifies himself as atonement, protecting Uk from being labeled the son of a sinner. Jang Gang dies without Uk seeing him one last time.

Climax: The King’s Star

Uk proceeds with his plan, losing his energy but retrieving/stabilizing the Ice Stone. The King’s Star appears in the sky, breaking the barrier. Everyone outside assumes it’s tied to the Crown Prince or another, but Park Jin knows the truth about Uk. Uk and Mu-deok reunite, content even without powers.

Time Skip & Resolutions

A short time jump shows calmer times:

Yul & Mu-deok: Yul prepares to leave for Seoho Fortress. Mu-deok thanks him for keeping her secret. They part warmly; she gives him the bird whistle as a memento. Naksu now only exists in memory.

Uk: He receives a portrait of his father and reflects on their brief meeting. He’s at peace.

Others: Songrim keeps Jang Gang’s belongings. Jin Mu is missing (on the run). The group finds some normalcy.

The episode ties up many threads, identities, sacrifices, and the Ice Stone’s immediate threat, while leaving lingering dangers (Jin Mu, broader consequences of the Star). It balances high drama with poignant goodbyes.
